Linda O’Connell clarifies son's legal name on air
During a Mother’s Day themed broadcast, Linda O’Connell appeared on set to surprise her son, subsequently informing the audience that the actor was not actually named "Jerry" at birth. According to the account of the broadcast, Linda stated that his legal name is Jeremiah.
The revelation occurred when she was asked about her son’s childhood, prompted by co-host Sheryl Underwood. Linda’s correction shifted the narrative from the actor’s professional moniker to his legal designation, a detail that has remained largely out of the public eye throughout his decades-long career in Hollywood.

Reaction to the Jeremiah revelation
The actor appeared caught off guard by the disclosure, noting that he is rarely referred to by his full name. O’Connell, who rose to fame as a child actor in "Stand by Me," has utilized "Jerry" exclusively in his professional credits and public personas.
The exchange highlighted a common disconnect between celebrity branding and personal history. While many actors adopt stage names for marketability or brevity, O’Connell’s situation appears to be a standard shortening that his mother felt compelled to rectify in a public forum. Despite the on-air surprise, the actor did not dispute his mother's claim, effectively confirming that Jeremiah is indeed the name on his official records.
